Gymnastics Ireland new DANCE FUNK CLALLENGE and FITNESS WORKOUTS are launching soon

Gymnastics Ireland welcomes members of all ages, levels and disciplines to join the new Dance Funk online challenge with Alan McGrath, a professional choreographer and dancer who has danced with Justin Bieber, David Guetta and Westlife, as well as appearing on the Eurovision and MTV’s European Music Awards. The aim of this Dance Funk challenge is to encourage physical activity in a fun and expressive way while helping to improve balance, strength, coordination, rhythm and timing – all important attributes to any gymnast.

Running in parallel, we will also be releasing a new series of fitness-based workouts with Luke Carson, Gymnastics Ireland National Coach and coach to pommel-horse star and World medallist Rhys McClenaghan. Luke will be challenging our gymnasts to focus on their basic strength and conditioning.

Both of these online activities will run free of charge for 6 weeks and workouts will be streamed every Friday at 4.30-5.00pm (Dance Funk workouts) and Saturday 10.30-10.45am (Fitness Workouts) starting on February 19th via the Gymnastics Ireland Facebook page @GymnasticsIre.

February Update

As per Government guidelines, we will remained closed for now. We are looking forward to reopening as soon as we are allowed. We miss everyone and can’t wait to get back to gymnastics and trampolining.

We hope you are all keeping well and not going completely crazy at this stage! It is very hard to keep doing what we’re being asked to do but it is important that we all do our best.

We have some fitness ideas and fun stuff on instagram – check it out if you have time.

COMPETITION TIME!

We are trying to come up with the best version of this acrostic poem as possible, but we need you guys to help us!

Start off by writing SALTO going down the page and put whatever words you associate with the club going through each letter!

This might be a nice break from homeschooling or just something fun to try.

We will be looking through all of the entries to pick our favourite and the winner will gifted a Salto gear bag!!

Entries can be sent via instagram or by email to info@saltocork.ie

Looking forward to seeing what people come up with!

Here’s an example …

Christmas Break

Salto Gymnastics will be closed for Christmas holidays from 20th December to 3rd January. All going well, we will reopen for Term 2 on Monday 4th January.

Emails will next be checked on 30th December.

Fees for the second term are due by 31st December. If fees have not been paid by then it will be assumed that the gymnast is not returning and their place will be opened up for someone else. If you have an issue with this deadline please contact mary@saltocork.ie.

Fees may be paid by cash, by cheque made payable to Salto Gymnastics or transferred into the bank account. If you are paying directly into the account, please make sure you put your child’s name against the payment so it can be allocated correctly. Salto Gymnastics IBAN: IE03 AIBK 9301 2112 8960 33 & BIC: AIBKIE2D

A big thanks to our coaching team for all their hard work to keep training going and continually adapting to the many different requirements as we went along. It has been a challenging year to say the least!

Another big thank you to our gymnasts. Everyone was so great about doing everything we asked of them. It was great to see lots of happy faces here and Christmas jumpers over the last couple of weeks!

We would like to wish all our gymnasts and their families a happy Christmas and we hope that 2021 will bring happiness and good health for all.

It will not be a case of “classes as normal” though, we will make changes to our lesson plans to operate within Level 3.

If circumstances change and we are advised to close, we will advise you immediately.

Logistics for the New Term

Everyone who is booked in for the new term commencing 31st August should have received an email today (22nd August). We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone. All going well, the first term will run for 10 weeks (commencing 31st August and ending 7th November). The full list of term dates is available here.

Please take note of the following information:

  • As usual, gymnasts will enter the club through the ENTRANCE door at the front of the building. There are markers on the path outside to allow people to queue 2m apart. Please do not leave your child queueing alone, an adult should accompany them to the door. ONLY THE GYMNASTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE GYM. Parents/guardians or siblings will not be allowed to enter for any reason. Gymnasts will sanitise their hands as they enter.
  • Gymnasts will be collected as usual from the EXIT door at the front of the building. Classes now run for 55 minutes rather than 1 hour to allow one class to exit before the next class enters. So, for example, if your child’s class commences at 4pm, the exit door will open at 4.55pm. All gymnasts will need to exit the gym during those 5 minutes so please be available to collect them.
  • The gymnasts will be able to use the toilet as usual but if possible encourage them to use the toilet at home prior to coming to the gym.
  • It won’t be possible for the gymnasts to change in the gym at the beginning or end of their classes so they need to arrive wearing suitable clothes.
  • The gymnasts should bring as little stuff with them as possible please so they can move to the cubby holes and then to the floor area as quickly as possible.
  • The gymnasts should bring a bottle of water with them.
  • All gymnasts must wear gymnastics shoes or a pair of socks at all times. The socks with grips are also suitable.
  • There are markers in place around the gym to ensure social distancing which the gymnasts will need to adhere to. They will still be able to chat and have fun, just at a bit of a distance!
  • The classes will be a bit different to usual to ensure social distancing but we aim for them to be as progressive and enjoyable as possible.
  • Parents should screen their own children at home prior to coming to class. If your child is unwell, they should not come.
  • If a gymnast feels unwell or is injured during the class, they should immediately advise their coach.  Please note that while every effort is made to safeguard your child, there is an element of risk to the sport of gymnastics.  First aid will be administered when required.
  • The coaches will wear masks/visors at all times.
  • We have an enhanced cleaning and sanitisation plan in place.
  • Our RTS (Return to Sport) Plan is a ‘live’ document and will change if necessary.

Please be assured that we will make every effort to ensure everyone’s safety. If you have any queries or concerns please email mary@saltocork.ie. Thank you for your support during these unusual times.
